Protein derived from milk and as such makes a great paint binder. To use, mix with ammonia and water or ammonium carbonate and water. Add pigment as desired. When dry, a casein paint is highly insoluble and has a hard, satiny surface. If not using a preservative, mix in small batches as the milk proteins will begin to spoil after a few days.
