Viscocryl is what is referred to as an inverse emulsion thickener that imparts a highly pseudoplastic rheology to water based emulsions and solutions. Viscocryl can thicken both acidic and alkaline (pH 2-12) compositions and gives stable thickening in various aqueous liquids. To use it is best to add the Viscocryl SLOWLY to an aqueous liquid while mixing agressively using a high speed drill type mixer. If the Viscocryl is added too quickly, it will have a tendency to form globules that can be difficult to break down. Once your medium has been thickened, this composition is stable for long periods of time.
